This set is Painted Poppy by Altenew. You’ve seen me use this beautiful set before, but today, I wanted to demonstrate a shadowing technique that I frequently use when hand-lettering.
First, on a white panel, I glued a strip of Catherine Pooler’s Black Tie Gala paper on the left side as a border. I wanted that in place first so I knew where to space and place my image and sentiment. I thought the border made a nice contrast.
The stamp set is layered, which is pretty cool. The first-step outline stamps were done in Midnight Black. The flower portion was filled with Coral Cabana and then Rockin’ Red. The leaves were done with Eucalyptus and then Spruce.
Now imagine the sun shining across your flower from any angle you choose. I chose my imaginary sun shining in from the top left corner. With a grey Tombow Dual Brush Pen, I shaded in the opposite side of the flower’s petals, leaf and stem from the imaginary sun rays. That’s it. Simple, simple!
I heat embossed the sentiment with WOW’s Aladdin Embossing Glitter. Then I filled the center of the flower with Nuvo’s Black Crystal Drops and created some dew drops with Nuvo’s Morning Dew Drops. I used Catherine Pooler’s Smoke and Mirrors Cardstock as the secondary panel behind the top layer to bring out the shadows.
Thanks so much for hanging out with me today and have a great weekend!
